Aboriginal Education
At Haberfield Public school we acknowledge the Wangal people of the Dharug and Eora Nations as the traditional custodians of the land on which our school resides.
Our commitment to Aboriginal education
At Haberfield Public school we believe that Aboriginal Education is everyone’s business.
Our active First Nations committee work diligently to build capacity in Aboriginal Education by working in partnership with First Nations community members and our local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) to implement the Aboriginal Education Policy and Partnership Agreement between the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group and the Department of Education.
Personalised learning Pathways
We use Personalised Learning Pathways (PLP's) to organise personal approaches to learning for Aboriginal students. Aboriginal voice is central to the selection and development of learning goals. Our PLP’s can include Literacy and Numeracy goals to meet closing the gap targets. PLP's also include a cultural goals.
Cultural activities
All students participate in cultural immersion activities to develop their knowledge of and respect for First Nations cultures. First Nations students participate in activities that extend their cultural knowledge to further develop a sense of identity and pride.
Our First Nations students working with Wildflower Gardens for Good to create an indigenous sensory healing garden on our playground.
This project was joint funded by our P&C and the school.
