Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.

Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.

Scripture/ Ethics

Scripture

Visiting clergy and scripture teachers conduct classes each Tuesday morning. Stages 2 & 3 begin religious instruction at 9.00am. Classes for Early Stage 1 & Stage 1 begin at 9.30am. We are fortunate to have regular teachers of scripture who teach voluntarily at our school. Combined Scripture Services are held for Easter and Christmas.

Religious Groups run during Scripture:

  • Catholic
  • Protestant
  • Muslim
  • Greek Orthodox
  • Hindu.

Ethics

Ethics classes are available for K to 6 students as an option for children who do not attend Special Religious Education (SRE). Classes are inquiry based and children use dialogue and discussion to learn how to think about ethical matters and issues while developing their capacity for moral reasoning.
